Why is general aviation air service important to our economy?

  • Scheduled airlines serve about 500 communities in the US. Over 3000 communities can access the national air transportation system only through the general aviation fleet. Direct air access to these many smaller communities saves travel time and traffic congestion thereby reducing energy waste and increasing the economic vitality of these communities.
  • About 160 million passengers are carried annually by via general aviation operations.
  • General aviation employs about 1.3 million people in the US and annually contributes about $150 billion to the US economy.
